- Essential Requirements:
- Physically able to perform required responsibilities
- High School education or better
- Valid Nebraska Driver’s license with a clean driving record as verified by the Department of State Motor Vehicles.
- Must be able to obtain a valid State of Nebraska School Bus Driver’s Permit and a valid Commercial Driver’s License.
5 Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions
- Effective communications skills including use of radio.
- Able to maintain vehicles: washing, vacuuming and general service.
- Able to relate to young people and positively manage behavior of children while operating a vehicle.
- Demonstrates desirable working relations and work habits.
- Must have a complete understanding of the district-operated transportation service.
- Physical presence required at employment.

- Essential Job Functions:
- Meet the physical requirements for a school bus driver’s license.
- Communicate effectively with parents and school personnel.
- Drive route bus
- Perform evacuation drills
- Perform bus inspections daily
- Prepare written reports as required by district policies and state law

- Job Tasks:
- Maintain yearly valid State of Nebraska School Bus Drivers’ license.
- Drive gasoline, or diesel, powered multi-passenger vehicles to transport students between neighborhoods, schools, and school activities. Transportation of students should be done in a safe, courteous manner by the prescribed routes and schedules as assigned.
- Take roll call for all assigned transportation. Transports only authorized students.
- Perform daily vehicle safety and operational checks. Prepares and submits reports as required
- Comply with traffic regulations in order to operate vehicles in a safe and courteous manner.
- Follow safety rules as students are boarding and exiting buses, and as they cross streets near bus stops.
- Pick up and drop off students at regularly scheduled neighborhood locations, following strict time schedules.
- Read maps, and follow written and verbal geographic directions.
- Regulate heating, lighting, and ventilation systems for passenger comfort.
- Manages student behavior in a positive and effective manner when students are on bus. Reports student behavioral problems to the appropriate building principal.
- Maintains all assigned vehicles in a clean, presentable manner.
- Maintains knowledge of first-aid procedures.
- Checks all assigned vehicles daily to be sure they have adequate fuel and oil and that proper servicing is being performed. Performs pre-driving inspections as required by law.
- Maintains all assigned vehicles in a safe, operational condition and reports any deficiencies. Assists in performing vehicle safety mechanical checks.
- Exercises responsible leadership when on out of district school trips.
- Performs other tasks, as directed, by the Superintendent or Supervisor of Transportation.
